When things happen to you, they often happen fast. You don't have time to get out your Bible and go looking for a verse that might help you react or respond. The only weapon you have is whatever you can instantly remember.
So memorize the verse that can become your key weapon for Forgiveness Season, Mt. 6.14-15 (NIV):
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
This verse is the heart of Forgiveness Season and the basis for the seasonal meme. Keep coming back to it. Keep celebrating it. Keep using it as things happen to you. Read the verses around it. Keep realizing new aspects of its meaning. SYNCed with this verse, you will stop thinking, "I could never forgive THAT!"
Don't fall for the idea that we can forgive small things but not huge, devastating ones. After all, which of our sins do we want God to forgive--only the small ones? If we want him to forgive the huge ones, we have to forgive the huge ones done to us. And with his help, we can.
Besides memorizing Mt. 6.14-15, you may want to memorize one or more other verses. If you use the daily or weekly Bible readings, Christ's Spirit will highlight a verse for you from time to time. All those highlighted verses are potential weapons for you.
The meme as a weapon
The meme for Forgiveness Season can work as an additional weapon, but remember that the actual Scripture verses are the permanent Word of God. They have a power of their own beyond the power of the phrases we use to re-state the truth today. That power can't be explained but it can be experienced.
