Spiritual weapon practice
Draft for Life Season
Part of making the world better is sticking up for defenseless people who are being abused.
For days when it seems there may be no hope, memorize this verse that can become your key weapon for Glory Season, Rev. 22.20 (NLT):
"He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon!’ Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!"
The glory of Glory Season is the return of Jesus to earth in person as the glorious King he is. This verse about his promise to return is the heart of Glory Season and the basis for the seasonal meme. Keep coming back to it. Keep celebrating it. Keep using it as things happen to you.
Read the verses around it. Keep realizing new aspects of its meaning. SYNCed with this verse, you will light up while others are giving up. You will bring hope because you live like you know how the world will turn out in the end, and it's glorious.
If you SYNC with Christ, then you trust him to intervene personally, make peace in the Middle East, bring down all the dictators, expose all the cheaters, and create the world we would like to create but can't.
That does not mean we sit with our hands folded, waiting for him to show up and solve everything for us. We can already see him though others do not see him yet. Our job is to point them to him. We radiate his light in the darkness, his warmth in the coldness, his love in the cruelty around us. The only way to do that is to keep our eyes on the dawn, watching the glory of Christ rise in us and others.
Besides memorizing Rev. 22.20, you may want to memorize one or more other verses. If you use the daily or weekly Bible readings, Christ's Spirit will highlight a verse for you from time to time. All those highlighted verses are potential weapons for you. If you want to kick-start your memorization, here are a couple dawn-bringers:
"The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple. That is the substance of our Message." (Col. 1.27, The Message)
In other words, we are from the future! Christ will make everything right when he rules it. He already rules us, so he is already making us right, turning us into exhibits of the future.
Of course, we are not perfect exhibits. What he is doing in us now is just the warm-up for what he will do when he takes over everything, but even the warm-up is great to be in on, and it is enough to help other people realize that something great is on the way. "Christ is in you!" Ponder it and live it.
Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure. (1 Jn 3.2-3, NLT)
It is really hard to do the wrong thing while we are thinking about Christ's return. The wrong thing is so out of SYNC with his perfect, glorious dawn that it makes no sense for us to give in to the temptation.
On the other hand, if we get Christ's return on our minds and keep it there, it has a purging effect on us. Other people see Christ's glory dawning as they see us being changed by gazing in awe at the glory of Christ, our hero and our hope. We are their windows on Christ's dawn, and the cleaner the window, the more light gets through.
The meme as a weapon
The meme for Glory Season can work as an additional weapon, but remember that the actual Scripture verses are the permanent Word of God. They have a power of their own beyond the power of the phrases we use to re-state the truth today. That power can't be explained but it can be experienced.
