We all want to make a difference in the world, but we may feel too small to count for much. If only we had more power, more money, more notoriety, a higher position, then we could do much more. We may even suppose that if we had as much power as God has, we could fix everything.
But we are on the wrong track. Life is not about all the good we would do if we had more power. It's not even about what we are doing with the power we have already got. It's about recognizing how God's power comes to earth and discovering what that has to do with us making a difference in the world.

Shocking as this may sound, Jesus' message was actually more about power than it was about love. He announced a new era of God's power taking over on earth, he showed us what that power could do, and he called people to embrace that new era.
When he went back to heaven, he took all that power with him, but not for long. Ten days later he turned it all loose on earth again. On that day (Pentecost Day, a Jewish harvest festival day), he sent his own Spirit back to earth to empower the first 120 of his followers to carry on the mission he had started, showing and telling the world about the new era under his kingly rule. (Acts 2.1-12)
That was a game-changer. Ever since then his Holy Spirit has been on the loose, transforming and empowering those who welcome his new era and convicting those who don't.
