Overview
God's People of the Future (POTF) Movement
For Star Wars fans POTF means "Power of the Force," but in SYNC it means a People of the Future.
This group we call a "People of the Future" is a "people" the way we talk about the "Zulu people" or the "Australian people." Those who belong to a "people" in that sense of the word can feel it and live by it. They are responsible to it and may be loyal to the point of death. Don't insult the Zulu people when there is a Zulu around. You will discover that belonging to the Zulu people is far more than a typical group membership.
Since that powerful group sense is not what springs to mind when we hear the word "people," we will call this "people" a "movement"--the People of the Future movement. It may also be called a team, a campaign, or a family, though none of these English words captures the whole idea precisely.
Nobody gets born into God's POTF movement. We are all recruited, and we get to sign up if we meet the one eligibility requirement--willingness to listen to the Spirit of Jesus a day at a time about our role as loyal recruits in his movement.
This is a kingdom of the willing. How smart you are, what color you are, how much good or bad you have done, how much money you have, what skills you would bring to the movement--none of that matters at all. In fact, your weakness and failings in the past may even be an advantage! Jesus seems to enjoy doing the impossible, turning losers into amazing winners, flipping the script of people's lives, opening up a new future for them.
God's POTF movement creates the future but not in the way political and economic power holders try to create it. They attempt to acquire and leverage enough power to create a particular state of affairs, an ideal situation they have in their dreams. And they assume that once the perfect situation is created, nobody will complain. Everyone will live happily ever after.
God starts at the other end of things. His strategy to change the world is first to create a People of the Future, a group of people who in this messed-up world are already getting connected with him and each other. They gradually tap into the love, peace, and joy that will be everywhere after Jesus returns. They sense it inside and they live it out among themselves. They even overflow with it to bless outsiders.
God does not start by centralizing power and changing the system; he changes the way people are inside. No system can do that, try as it might. And we can't change ourselves either, not at the deep subconscious level where God operates with such skill and power. People of the Future open themselves up to what he can do.
Note: Once in a while we will use POTF to mean "Person of the Future," an individual member. It is true that we each become "a POTF" through the Messiah, the Future-Bringer, but we always must keep in mind that "People of the Future" refers to a family of people, not just a loose group of people who have something in common. Strong, meaningful connections within the POTF family show the world what the future will look like.
The big idea of SYNC
BREAKING: A huge and futuristic global movement is going on, but many people are clueless about it and out of SYNC with it.
If you knew you that someone had masterminded a campaign for a future utopia and that it seemed to be making some progress, would you join that campaign? Not right away, I hope. You would check it out to see how far you trusted the campaign strategy, leadership, and track record.
We all know how easy it is to talk about a world connected in peace and harmony, all diseases and all old wounds healed, and everyone blessed with everything they need to thrive. It's hard to trust people who talk like that.
Failed utopian campaigns
Lenin, Hitler, and Mao all promised utopia to their millions of followers. Their strategy to create a perfect world was to subjugate and/or eliminate imperfect people and groups, that is, all who did not agree that a supreme leader should be trusted to decide how much power (and violence) was necessary to implement their strategy to bring about utopia.
John Lennon had a non-violent alternative strategy--"Imagine." Millions know the words of that song and billions have heard it sung in a hopeful manner, but is the world any closer to utopia now than it was in 1971 when the "Imagine" album came out? And will anybody sing it to the power holders or the victims in the Middle East?
Another strategy that has been tried is to create a model utopian community under isolated and controlled conditions. But these communities become cultic. They fossilize, implode, or fizzle out. They fail to convince the wider world that they have found the secret path to utopia.
How to avoid getting sucked in
Many people conclude that the wisest approach is not to listen to any utopian claims ever. Lower our sights, focus on getting the best deal we can in life for ourselves and those who matter most to us. Do a little good for the world if we can, but don't expect it to have much effect.
What's wrong with that? It is realistic, and we don't mean to hurt anybody else. We will only resort to hurting other people if they try to get the best deal for themselves by taking some things we were counting on as part of the best deal for us.
The whole SYNC site is a call to think bigger, to get our heads out of our own tiny worlds and, in spite of all the failed campaigns for utopia, dare to consider one that uses a wildly different strategy.
This movement or campaign is not aggressive like many campaigns, especially political and military ones. This is like an information campaign, a public service for everyone's good. It tries to show everyone the benefits of listening to the campaign message. It tries to persuade them to act on the information, but it does not force clueless people to get clued in. It only clues them in if they are willing to listen.
The message of this information campaign is that the future utopia is dawning. Signs of it are visible in the POTF movement. The connections, healing, and blessing that people imagine as utopia are showing up in the everyday lives of movement members. They experience these things together. They even overflow with them so non-members benefit.
The POTF members tell non-members why they are so happy to be POTF members. This movement can bring in the future, and it is already working among the people who join it. It has the perfect mastermind, God Himself; the perfect director, Jesus the Messiah; and the perfect director of communications, the Holy Spirit. We are involved in it but we are not allowed to tamper with the Jesus's strategy or act like we are more important to the movement than we really are.
Oh, so this is a religious movement?
Not exactly, even though it does have Jesus in the middle of it. This is a movement to show the world that a glorious future is arriving. That future era is similar to life as we know it but without all the garbage and pain.
In the new era we do not trade our everyday lives and relationships for lives of constant religious activity and meetings. God is a lot more creative than that, and his interests are a lot broader than the religious slice of life.
He has three main things on his agenda--connection, healing, and blessing. So SYNC is not asking you how interested you are in religion. We are asking how interested you are in the future--your whole future and the future of the whole world.
Jesus is the Messiah, the World-Changer, the Future-Bringer. To See Yourself iN Christ (SYNC) means to participate in his process of changing the world in his way. You let him lead each step as he has customized it for you.
